IN THE NEWS.
January 2012 - Veterinary Cancer Group is beaming with pride as they celebrate 20 years of pet cancer care in Southern California! Started as a one doctor, shared-facility organization, Veterinary Cancer Group has blossomed into its present state with four locations throughout the Southern California area. Boasting nine full-time staff veterinarians, six of which are board certified in medical oncology with the ACVIM, one of which is board certified in radiation oncology with the ACVR, and one that is double boarded in both radiation and medical oncology. Veterinary Cancer Group began with the vision of Dr. Mona Rosenberg. She wanted to make a difference in the quality of pets' lives, always standing by the credo of "not wanting the treatment to be worse than the disease". Through the years she has mentored and helped build a team of top notch veterinary oncologists. They help concerned owners every day to understand that there is hope and there is help available for our furry family members diagnosed with cancer. These like-minded, compassionate individuals collaborate with each other and your family veterinarian to find the best course of action for each pet. Veterinary Cancer Group invites interested individuals to call for more information and even drop by to tour the facilities.

November
2011 - Dr. Jarred Lyons & Dr. David
Bommarito are excited announce the addition of CyberKnife
stereotactic robotic radiosurgery. Sterotactic robotic
radiosurgery is a noninvasive alternative to surgery for the
treatment of both cancerous and noncancerous tumors anywhere in the
body, including the head, spine, lung, prostate, bone, liver,
kidney, pancreas, and perianal region. The treatment uses multiple
beams of high dose radiation therapy to treat tumors with
sub-millimeter accuracy for patients who have inoperable or
surgically complex tumors, or who are looking for alternative to
surgery. It is noninvasive, requires no incisions, and allows
clinicians to deliver high doses of radiation safely to tumors
while sparing surrounding healthy tissues, thus causing fewer side
effects than conventional therapy. In addition, CyberKnife
radiosurgery requires only 1-3 treatments lasting approximately
30-90 minutes per treatment, greatly reducing overall anesthesia
and treatment times as compared to conventional radiation
therapy. Call the Los Angeles or Orange County office for more
information.
September 2011 - Double-boarded raditaion and medical oncologist David Bommarito has joined Veterinary Cancer Group of Orange County. His addition to the team gives Veterinary Cancer Group's Tustin location the distinction of having the only full-time, on-site Veterinary radiation oncologist in Orange County. Dr. Bommarito grew up in Southern California and attended UC Berkeley for his undergraduate education. He graduated from Berkeley in 2001 and began his veterinary education at UC Davis. He earned his doctorate in veterinary medicine in 2005 and was subsequently accepted into a one year internship at Cornell University. In 2006, Dr. Bommarito began his radiation oncology residency training at the University of Missouri and in 2008 he became board certified with the American College of Veterinary Radiology in radiation oncology. He continued his education at the University of Missouri with a three year medical oncology residency and masters degree program which was completed in 2011. Now back in Southern California with his wife and newborn baby girl, he is excited to begin his career as a double boarded oncologist with the Veterinary Cancer Group.

September 2010 - VETERINARY CANCER GROUP ANNOUNCES OPENING OF OUTPATIENT ONCOLOGY FACILITY IN SAN FERNANDO VALLEY
Our commitment to improving the
lives of pets with cancer and the desire to be the first
choice in veterinary oncology services drives us to make
access to pet cancer care as convenient as possible. Toward
this goal, Veterinary Cancer Group has opened a fourth location in
Southern California, positioned in an area much requested as a
locale by the referring veterinary community.
Veterinary Cancer Group has long been the source of pet
cancer care for scores of visitors from the San Fernando
Valley area. Pets and their families routinely travel from as far
as Ventura County, Simi Valley, Valencia, Palmdale, Bakersfield,
and beyond to seek treatment with our group of oncologists. The
facility gives those who find it challenging to travel to
our Los Angeles location a bit of relief.
Heading up the San Fernando Valley Team is Dr. Birgitte
Tan-Coleman. Dr. Tan-Coleman, a part of Veterinary Cancer
Group's Los Angeles location at the City of Angels Veterinary Specialty
Center since 2006, was a natural fit for this new
facility. Prior to her acceptance into Veterinary Cancer
Group's intern and, subsequent, residency program, she worked
in the San Fernando Valley at a 24-hour general practice
and emergency hospital. Dr. Tan-Coleman has many relationships with
general practice veterinarians in the area and hopes to get to know
even more. Dr. Tan-Coleman will be able to benefit from the
Power of the Group of oncologists on staff at the other
three locations by participating in daily rounds as well
as weekly journal clubs via teleconference. This collaboration
allows time for ideas to be bounced off of veterinarians who
we consider some of the most innovative thinkers in the
profession.
Along with Dr. Tan-Coleman come other established staff members
from the Veterinary Cancer Group Team. Registered Veterinary
Technician Erin Palmer will be helping to get the new facility
quickly in the swing of things and will be on-site to care for
patients during business hours. If you stop in to say Hello,
you'll notice other familiar faces as well. Most
importantly, we bring along to the new location the
knowledge that pets are members of the family and that they
should be treated as such.
Veterinary Cancer Group of San Fernando Valley is located on
Ventura Boulevard, near Winnetka Avenue at 20051-D Ventura
Boulevard in Woodland Hills, California. The practice
shares its location with a long-standing overnight and weekend
emergency center for area residents, Animal Emergency Care Center. Veterinary Cancer
Group of San Fernando Valley is open Mondays and Thursdays
8:30am to 5:00pm. Please call 818.888.6882 for more
information or to book an appointment.
August 2010 - In an attempt to make veterinary oncology care as accessible as possible, Veterinary Cancer Group is adding a day of availability to the schedule. As of August 1, 2010, Veterinary Cancer Group of Los Angeles is open for appointments, for both new patients and follow - up alike on Sundays. With today's hectic lifestyle, we understand it may be challenging to schedule a traditional appointment. As well, we have gotten a hefty amount of feedback from referring veterinarians in the community requesting extended office hours to serve their clients. With these ideas in mind, we feel that Sundays will be an excellent addition to our already varied schedule offerings. If interested in visiting Veterinary Cancer Group on a Sunday, please call the Los Angeles office for an appointment at (310) 558-6120.
July 2010 - Veterinary Cancer Group is extremely proud of the hard work and dedication shown by our veterinarians who recently completed some very rigorous examinations. We would like to announce the following achievements our doctors have earned as a part of the requirements necessary to obtaining their individual Board Certifications:
June 2010 - Dr. Jesse Grayton has joined Veterinary Cancer Group as an oncology intern. Dr. Grayton comes to us from a large multi-specialty veterinary hospital in New York City where she recently completed a general, rotating internship in medicine and surgery. Dr. Grayton is very interested in veterinary oncology and hopes that her internship with Veterinary Cancer Group is just the beginning of her experience in the field.
June 2010 - Dr. Birgitte Tan-Coleman has completed her residency program and joined on as a staff doctor at Veterinary Cancer Group - Los Angeles.
May 2010 - Veterinary Cancer Group's founder and chief of staff, Dr. Mona Rosenberg, brought her vast knowledge and years of experience in the field of veterinary oncology to San Diego this month. She temporarily took the reins from Dr. Jarrod Vancil, while he was on a short hiatus to prepare for the examination required to earn board-certification. Dr. Vancil has developed bonds with many in the San Diego area, with both the local veterinary community and the owners of the cancer patients he treats. He feels fortunate to have had his attentive mentor, Dr. Rosenberg, on duty during his absence. Dr. Mona Rosenberg established Veterinary Cancer Group in 1992 as a one-doctor practice with the desire to take the fear out of the diagnosis of cancer in our pets. Today she nurtures young veterinarians interested in the field and is a sought after lecturer in the veterinary community. For more information or an appointment at our San Diego office, please call (619) 414-5056.
March 2010 - Veterinary Cancer Group is pleased to announce that 'The Power of the Group' of our veterinary cancer care providers has just been strengthened with the addition of our newest board-certified oncologist. Dedicated to compassionate care and strengthening the human-animal bond, Dr. Turner was eager to become a part of a team of oncologists, to participate in daily rounds, and collaborate with peers to offer best possible care for her patients. Dr. Turner's areas of special interest and research include canine and feline lymphatic disorders such as multiple myeloma, lymphoma, and myeloproliferative disease. She also has an interest working with referring veterinarians to further the ability for exotic animals to be treated for cancer. Dr. Avenelle Turner is a key addition to our team of oncologists and other pet cancer care providers.

The OCBJ picked 40 companies that do business in Orange County and divided them into three categories based upon size: large companies, medium companies with 25 to 249 workers, and small companies. The companies were ranked from responses gathered from surveys of two sources. Employees answered questions based on their experience with the organization and the company's culture, while employer questionnaires were used to gather details about benefits, policies, and practices. In all, about 100 companies took part in the process, including the likes of Boost Mobile, Black & Decker, and Ikea. So where did the Team in Tustin place you might ask?
